I first saw her work at Beck’s Futures when she won back in 2004. One of the perks of my job at the time was that I knew that she was going to win before she did. We went to the opening/ award presentation but it was not very glamorous. Bob Geldorf and Yoko Ono presented and they were cool and honest about art and life. I feel so pathetic name-dropping like this but I’m doing it anyway. On the tube on the way there my colleague joked that we should go via the betting office and cash in on our inside knowledge. He had a great sense of humour. We ended up drinking too much beer (pretentious free Becks was obviously in abundance and it all tastes the same anyway). I still managed to fall in love with her work. Almost as good sober, her work features unusual stories narrated over beautiful visuals. I’m particularly interested in the narratives and would love to see more of her work.
